Calligraphy, an Asian art

Learning Japanese and Chinese calligraphy is an art. An art that must be enjoyed and with which you have to be patient and spend time on it.
In Japan there are schools focused on Shodo (the art of calligraphy) where you’ll be able to learn the shape of the characters. However, this way you’ll just be able to learn how to copy kanjis but not to show your personality through them.

Our calligraphy teacher, Michi

She belongs to the Shodo Art School, Nihon, where you won’t learn writing by repetition but using your breath and making infinite circles on the movement. This way, each one of your kanjis will show off your personality and you’ll work on your breathing. Then you’ll represent your own life through this universal movement. Michi: “It’s a way to relax your mind along with my country’s culture, Japan. This is what I was looking for and this is the reason I began. It’s a meditation similar to the ZEN one and it’ll help you relax too.”

Calligraphy workshop

Here in Mitoyo you’ll be able to get into this art through our free calligraphy workshop. In this course you will learn how to write in Japanese with the teacher Michi, 4 th dan in calligraphy and awarded by the Ministry of Education and Science on the National Competition of Japanese Calligraphy, Nara (2018 文部科学大臣賞). Here you’ll be able to learn Japanese characters and take home your work written on rice paper.
